Ice Dams

Ice dams form when accumulated snow on a sloping roof melts and then re-freezes, preventing additional meltwater from draining properly. The accumulated water causes leaks resulting in damage to the roof structure, walls, ceilings and insulation. These cutaway illustrations show the anatomy of an ice dam and how to prevent them with adequate ventilation and insulation from heat leaks.
