Re: Creating illustration with Pro-E files

If your client uses pro-e based software, they are completely capable of providing a useful format like a .dxf as a .pdf. Pdf's will allow you to use some of the linework or at the very least, provide you with a flat image to referrence. Most pro-e software has an ability to translate into pdf or ot...

Re: New Work

It is rare, if ever, these days to be able to post an updated version of my portfolio. Since the majority of my work falls under strict non-disclosure agreements and other federal and governmental laws, it is nice to have the occasional freelance job to add work to my illustration portfolio. Please ...

Photoshop painting tutorial

I've been looking for some time and have yet to come across a good painting tutorial for technical illustration (mainly in Photoshop). I know of the general idea of how to approach the style of painting technical illustrations rather than the use of Illustrator alone, but it always helps to see it d...

Re: New Work

Jim, Everytime, your work is amazing! You painted this in photoshop right? I was wondering if you might share your process sometime on this site (mainly how you approach coloring in after you develop the line work). You have some of the best technical illustration work in my opinion. The line weight...

Re: Adobe Creative Cloud

I'm still waiting to hear Adobe's reply regarding use of the Creative Cloud for companies that deal with confidential or proprietary information. The cloud model seems to be a potential giant prohibiter of such companies upgrading to newer versions of Adobe software. I really don't think Adobe fully...

Re: Ghosted view or cutaway?

Matt,
Simply put, it depends on the information you are trying to convey. Both have their benefits. I believe that on Kevin Hulsey's site he explains the use of both. I'll try and post the link when I find it again...

Re: New Work

AB, This is some incredible work! I'd definitely suggest putting a portfolio of some kind together to highlight your work in one place. Whether it be a professional site, deviant art, a wordpress, tumblr, or a blog, a place to have your art centrally displayed is extremely helpful for finding work. ...

Re: Technical Illustration Job Board

Michael Dweck is looking for is a blowup technical illustration of a 1970's carburetor. Both in line drawing then with a metallic surface.
As an option he might like it to be photorealistic as well.

Re: New Work

Mike, Nice work. I always appreciate seeing varied line weight. There is one thing that caught my eye though: why, on the back tire, did you not continue the thick outline all around (between the gear and chain looks odd to me not having the same lineweight consistency as the rest of the tire)? I so...
