Self-Assembling Robot Pebbles

Self-Assembling Robot Pebbles

MIT researchers have developed robotic pebbles as an alternative to three-dimensional printing. The pebbles first surround the object to be copied (blue) and sense the object’s boundaries & positions of their neighbours (green). That information is communicated (yellow) to a new set of pebbles, which magnetically attach to one another to form the copy (orange).
