Tsunami Early Warning System

Tsunami Early Warning System Infographic

Geophysicists at Stanford University in California believe they have found a way to give early warning to areas at risk to tsunamis. The system uses sensors on the ocean floor to pick up the sound waves generated by undersea earthquakes. These sound waves travel 30 times faster than the waves themselves. This data is used to predict wave heights and destinations tens of minutes earlier than previously possible.
