Technical Illustration
Process

Technical illustration is equal parts science and art. This process helps me consistently deliver on my clients’ information communication needs and creative goals.

What is your process for a typical project?

The first step is defining the problem. We discuss your creative and informational goals to define the scope of the project. This includes the size of illustrations, quantity, style, content, format, usage rights, and timing. I provide a cost estimate. Once we’ve agreed on all of the specifics, a downpayment is made and work can begin.

The second step is exploring visual solutions to the problem. Through a series of sketches and rough illustrations, we find the best way to achieve your goals. This is an iterative and collaborative process that ensures the final product meets your needs and expectations. When we’ve agreed on a creative direction, I can commence work on the final deliverables.

The last step is execution and delivery of your final visual solution. Upon completion and approval you will receive high-resolution lossless files in your preferred format, as well as working files if required. I can make any final adjustments as needed for production.

What will it cost?

Pricing is project-based and depends on the scope of the project. I can provide you with a cost estimate based on the specifics of your project.

If your budget is fixed or limited, let me know and together we can work out a cost-effective solution that can meet your objectives.

How long will it take?

Timing depends on the scope of the project and my availability. The typical project takes 2-4 weeks, but some can be completed in as little as one week.

What do I receive?

Upon completion and approval of the project, you’ll receive high-resolution lossless files in your preferred file format. Upon payment in full, you’ll receive the copyrights (legal permission) to use the work as agreed.

What do you need to get started?

Any reference material that you can provide me will help, whether it’s photos, blueprints, 3D CAD data or just napkin sketches. Send it all my way, and I’ll make sense of it.
